Plumber Salt Lake City Utah Video #11:

What is hybrid water heater?

In this video, Jim Munson, a plumber in Salt Lake City, discusses what is hybrid water heater.

“Alright. A lot of people ask me what a hybrid water heater is. I guess there are several different hybrid water heaters out there. What I consider a hybrid water heater is; you have a regular water heater and most water heaters heat up to about 110 — 115 degrees. So say you’ve got about a 40 gallon water heater, 115 degrees, you mix a little cold water into it and while you’re taking a shower you might get maybe 40 to 50 gallons of warm water.

A hybrid is a little bit different. It’s a regular tank but it heats the water up super hot, usually up to 160, 170, 180 degrees and there’s this little mixing valve on top. It goes from the cold over to the hot and it mixes the cold water with the super hot water and end up giving you 110 degrees.

But say the tank is a 50 gallon tank. It literally gives you about 200 to 250 gallons of 110 – 115 degree water. So it’s a 50 gallon tank that acts like a 200 gallon water heater. That’s what we call a hybrid water heater and Bradford White — which is my favorite brand — makes this particular one I’m thinking of and it works beautifully. When people say they’re in a small tiny room, they have a furnace and they only have room for one water heater but they have needs to 2 or 3 water heaters, it’s a perfect solution. It’s a smaller water heater — basically the size of one — that acts like 2 or 3 water heaters.

It works great. So if you need a hybrid water heater give Expert Plumbing, Heating, Air and Electrical a call. We’d love to help you out.
