Do plumbers do Water Heaters?
In this video, Jim Munson explains if Plumber Salt Lake City do water heaters.
At Expert Plumbing, Heating, Air and Electrical in Salt Lake City, we definitely do repair and replace water heaters!
As a plumber, I don’t get why people understand that plumbers don’t do water heaters. That is like one of the main things that we do. It’s not if a water heater’s going to leak, it’s when. All water heaters leak after a given amount of time. We absolutely do water heaters. Not only that, but I try to educate people.
There are so many times when I go out to a water heater and I go, you know, how do we replace a thing called an anode-rod, which is a thing that goes in the middle of the tank, and it basically stops the tank from leaking every 2 to 3 years. I’ve only met a few people that replace them, but their water heaters are 20+ years old. An average water heater only lasts for about 8 to 10 years. That’s your average water heater. A lot of people don’t know you’re supposed to give them a tune up, or take care of them, drain them, none of that ever happens. It’s the old water heater, it just sits there making hot water day and day until it stops giving you hot water. You don’t worry about it. Water heaters are very neglected unfortunately, but if you do take care of them, they can literally last you over 20 years. Not only that, I have a quick story that, the oldest water heater that I’ve ever met was 35 years old.
When I was about 25 when I did it and it had some weird things on the front of it, I’d never seen it. This lady called me and said she needed a new water heater, this one is leaking. I said, “Wow, this is so old.” She said, “My husband, every year he’d drain it. Every 2 or 3 years he’d replace the thing in the middle (the anode-rod) and I never had problems. He died 2 years ago. And now it’s leaking.” I was amazed. I kept this water heater in my backyard for about 5 years, finally I said, “Why am I doing this?” and I threw it away. I was so impressed. I’d never seen a water heater last for 35 years. Amazing!
Just tells you, if you do take care of a water heater, if he would’ve still been alive and taken care of it, I’m thinking it would’ve lasted another 10 years, who knows. If you take care of water heaters, they’ll last forever. And definitely, plumbers do water heaters!
